Denise McKernan

I am a qualified social worker of 30 years and am registered with Social Care England.

I have an extensive background working in Child Protection/Child in Need, Learning Disability and Adult Social Work teams. I have extensive experience of supervising/training social work staff and am a qualified Social Work  Practice Educator. I have in-depth experience of assessment work and have worked in child law courts under the legal framework of the Children and Families Act 2014, Mental Health Act 2010, and Care Act 2014. 

 I also have experience of carrying out Best Interest Assessments and Capacity Assessments. I am training for the ADOS assessment qualification. 

I am an experienced trainer having provided training on Safeguarding Practice, Common Assessment Framework Practice, Learning Disability Assessments and Support Plans, Fostering and Adoption Assessments and the MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference ) process. I also provide Specialist Autism training.

I act as an advocate/representative for community members who may experience any form of Hate Crime and meet with the police and other agencies regularly to support families. 

I believe there is a strong need for independent advocacy and support for families to ensure children and adults in need are entitled to what they deserve.

I offer consultation and advice on the above.
